Audio & eBooks

Audio books are available in 3 formats: digital (through the NEIBORS project), CD, and tape.

Library patrons now have anytime, anywhere access to a dynamic collection of digital audio books and e-books through the new library service NEIBORS, the North Eastern Iowa Bridge to Online Resource Sharing. NEIBORS is coordinated by East Central, North Central and Northeastern Library Service Areas and is a collaboration of 94 member libraries.

To check out eBooks, audiobooks, users need a valid library card, computer, and Internet connection. Once downloaded, digital media can be enjoyed on a computer and transferred to popular devices such as MP3 players, iPods®, Smartphones, and more. At the end of the lending period, titles automatically expire and are returned to the collection. Users may return eBooks early.

Patrons can check out up to two titles at a time with a 7 or 14 day lending period. eBooks can be read on a PC or Mac® using free reader software called Adobe® Digital Editions. eBooks can also be transferred to popular e-reading devices like the Sony® Reader, Barnes & Noble nook™ and Amazon Kindle. Many eBooks feature reflowable text which allows a user to resize the text and alter the display to fit any screen size.

With the digital titles, there are no late fees or damage costs. The service is free, easy-to-use, and best of all, available anytime from anywhere in the world.

As in the past, audio books are also available on CD and on tape and may be checked out for a 2 week period.
